Derio is a town in the province of Biscay, located not far from the city of Bilbao, in the north of the country, within the autonomous community of the Basque Country.
Due to its history, Bilbao offers an amazing mix where architecture, tradition, sea and mountains, character and history combine to offer visitors an endless range of leisure and cultural options.
On 19 May 2012, the city of Bilbao was recognised with the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, awarded by the city-state of Singapore, in collaboration with Swedish Nobel Academy: considered to be the Nobel prize for urban planning. On 7 January, 2013, its mayor Iñaki Azkuna, received the World Mayor Prize for 2012, that is awarded every two years by the British body The City Mayors Foundation, in recognition for the urban transformation that the capital of Biscay has gone through since the 90’s.
